“A Rose by any other name would smell as sweet.” No, that’s not Ashley Greene’s Alice from Twilight, that’s a new European vampire named Rose- same short wavy hair though.
“Rose” picks up where “Masquerade” left off. Elena is unconscious in a trunk and handed over to a Euro vamp. Caroline and Damon have a morning chat so the audience can be reminded that Tyler is a werewolf and stuff. Teen wolf is now exhibiting random acts of strength: lock breaking, slam dunking, where’s Michael J. Fox when you need him? Tyler is onto Caroline, and as good as blondie is at playing dumb, she’s not good enough. It’s best that these things are out in the open among cast regulars. Tyler pulls a B and E and round one goes to the goldilock curls. So the hunt for Elena begins. Its Ouija board meets GPS, when Bon Bon uses a spell and Jeremy’s blood to track Elena’s whereabouts. The Salvatore brothers set out because, you know, “its Elena”- which is somehow justification for them but not for Jeremy. So the two hit the road in a very brotherly, classic car, Supernatural kind of way. Hey, at least Jeremy and Bonnie get to bond! After Jeremy uses his LG cell to send info to Stefan, Bon gets a bloody nose while teleporting paper. But when she wakes the two have a genuine moment, it’s true, just listen to the soft music.
The Euro vamp is Trevor and his sister vamp is Rose. She reveals the moonstone binds the curse and sacrificing the doppel (aka Elena) breaks the curse. But what curse? I’m curse confused. The two are connected to the “originals” and someone named Elijah- the show’s version of Twilight’s Volturi. Rose negotiates with Elijah: she’ll give him the doppel of Katerina Patrova in excahnge for her and Trevor’s freedom, a pardon. Then Elijah kills Trevor for kicks (decapitation is another way to kill a vampire) and Rose is free but pissed. Elijah glamours Elena, she reveals some locations, and then the Salvatores crash the party. Elijah is stopped but he’ll be back…muhahahaha. "Rose" was written by Brian Young, under the direction of Liz Friedlander, not bad people, not bad.The Damon/Elena ending: Damon needed to get a confession off his chest and admit his love. Although the scene seems like a rehash, Damon has a way of tugging at the heart strings- the conviction of a champ. We feel for Damon, we know that no dark side comes without pain. Cheer up Damon, there’s a war to be fought, and a team to assemble. Elena can always be that girl worth fighting for.

It will be interesting where they will go with the "originals" because in the book you can only kill them with a special type of wood and Claus doesn't come in until K is wayyyy dead. After seeing the promo for next week, do you think Elena will turn? Not necessarily in the next episode, but in the season.
ReplyDeleteElena turning seems like the end of the show. Unlike Bella, I'm glad that Elena doesn't have a great desire to become a vampire. I think the originals will play a cool role.
ReplyDeleteThis was a good episode (and I generally think those are rare on this show hahaha)! I like that we are finally getting into a deeper mythology with the originals and the curse. I was also please with the way they explained/ reasoned the question of why Elena and Katherine look the same and why Katherine is still alive (Although I hate that they use the word "doppelganger"- they are not really using it correctly and it's like calling them zombies in a zombie movie).
ReplyDeleteAs far as Elena turning, it's not going to happen. Not yet, if ever. I think it works very differently on a TV show than in a book and no one has tried to pull off a vampire show without a human love interest (think Twilight, True Blood, Dracula etc). With that said, however, CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! (jk- How I Met Your Mother reference? No? ok.) I am interested, Caitlin, how close is the show sticking to the book so far? Because that could be a good indication of how it will go in the future.
I caught the reference! Speaking of, the last two eps of "2.5 Men" weren't that funny, that show is going down hill. I like the mythos, its working. And I like "Bonnermy"...and I usually don't care for black chicks.
ReplyDeleteThey are not going close to the book at all! haha so many different things that the switched or changed. Also, Elena turns in the books...
